Chinese food. My husband is a doctor in his residency, so we live in Tampa while our familes are back in the Midwest. We don’t have much family around and he works either Christmas or New Years each year (so we can’t travel home)and around 80-120 hours a week at a time, so we have a simple tradition of ordering Chinese Food and singing “Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra,” courtesy of the movie A Christmas Story. I know for at least a small time we’ll get to spend the holiday together and share laughs about the Chinese food Christmases in years past…

Every year I am on the hunt for a new cookie recipe to add to the madness that is my company’s annual cookie exchange that accompanies our holiday party. This year I found a stellar recipe for homemade pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, and they are absolutely delicious! They were such a hit this year, that they will become an annual staple at the party. I use heaping tablespoons of dough for each cookie, so they come out large and puffy and are almost like muffin tops. If you eat too many you are certain to attain one of these by the New Year too! I always burn my mouth after the first batch because I can never wait for them to cool and devour a cookie as soon as I can get that tray out of the oven. Needless to say, I have had my fill of pumpkin cookies already for probably most of 2012.

RISOTTO! But not just any risotto; my husband and I make it with sweet potatoes and far too many roasted chanterelles. Topped off with a hearty dose of truffle oil and a balsamic glaze you’ll be hard pressed not to go back for seconds or thirds provided there’s any left.
